Prioritizing Physical and Emotional Health
The health and wellbeing of every child are at the heart of what we do. From regular health check-ups to mental health support, we provide comprehensive care that ensures children feel physically safe and emotionally secure. Our team works closely with healthcare professionals to address individual needs while promoting healthy lifestyles.
Physical Health
We take a proactive approach to supporting children’s physical health. Upon arrival at the home, each child is registered with a local GP, dentist, and optician. We encourage all children to have an Initial Health Assessment conducted by the Designated Nurse for Looked After Children, which is reviewed annually.
Our approach to supporting physical health includes:
- Regular health check-ups.
- Prompt access to medical care when needed
- Supporting children to attend appointments
- Education about healthy lifestyles, including nutrition and exercise
- Encouraging participation in physical activities
A designated staff member oversees the health and well-being of the young people in our care, ensuring that health needs are identified and addressed promptly.
Mental Health
We recognize that many children in care have experienced emotional difficulties due to adverse childhood experiences. Therefore, supporting mental health and emotional well-being is a central aspect of our care.
Our approach includes:
- Creating a nurturing environment that supports emotional security
- Helping children understand and manage their emotions
- Teaching strategies for stress management and emotional regulation
- Working with specialist mental health services when needed
- Recognizing the impact of trauma on mental health and development
